British actor Mark Strong was born on August 5, 1963, in London, England. His birth name was Marco Giuseppe Salussolia, but his mother had his name changed so that he would fit in better with friends. He initially studied in Munich in the hopes of becoming a lawyer; however, he soon decided to change his path and he studied English and Drama instead. His first appearance on television was in 1989 when he made a guest appearance in an episode of After Henry. He has since gone on to play countless roles in both well-known and less-known television shows, theater productions, video games, and films.
Two of his most popular roles early on were in Prime Suspect 3 in 1993 and Prime Suspect 6 in 2003. Americans probably recognize him from 2009’s Sherlock Holmes and 2011’s Green Lantern. Other notable appearances include his part in The Imitation Game, which was released in 2014 and also stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Keira Knightley. His theater appearances include Death of a Salesman in 1996 and A View from the Bridge in 2015 and 2016. He has also been cast in five video games since 2010, including Total War: Rome II and Squadron 42. He has received many nominations and won several awards for his acting.
