Francis Ford Coppola Bio

Francis Ford Coppola is an American film director, producer, screenwriter, and film composer, born in Detroit, Michigan on April 7, 1939. He is known for having a key role in the New Hollywood filmmaking movement in the 1960s and 1970s. He is best known for writing, directing, and producing The Godfather films. In 1962 he directed, wrote and produced his first feature film titled Tonight for Sure and has since been a writer, producer, and/or director of the films The Terror, Is Paris Burning, The Rain People, Patton, The Godfather, The Great Gatsby, The Conversation, The Rainmaker, New York Stories, Gardens of Stone, Faerie Tale Theatre, Twixt, Tetro, Distant Vision, Don Juan DeMarco, Kinsey, Lost in Translation, On the Road, The Bling Ring and many more. Throughout his career he has been nominated for numerous awards and has won six Academy Awards, four Golden Globe Awards, two Directors Guild of America Awards, three Writers Guild of America Awards among others.
