Steven Soderbergh Bio

Steven Soderbergh is an American filmmaker, screenwriter, producer, and actor born in Atlanta, Georgia on January 14, 1963. While in high school, he started making short films. After graduating, he moved to Hollywood to pursue his dream of making Hollywood films. He made his writing debut and directorial debut in 1989 with the indie drama Sex, Lies, and Videotape. He has since written and directed the films King of the Hill, The Underneath, Schizopolis, Solaris, and Eros. Soderbergh has been a director of the films Traffic, Ocean’s Eleven, Full Frontal, Che, Contagion, Magic Mike, Side Effects, Logan Lucky, Unsane, High Flying Bird more. He has been a producer on the films Suture, The Daytrippers, Pleasantville, Insomnia, Able Edwards, The Big Empty and others. Soderbergh’s films have grossed over $2.2 billion dollars worldwide and have been nominated for nine Oscars and have won seven. In 1999 he published a memoir titled Getting Away With It: Or, The Further Adventures of the Luckiest Bastard You Ever Saw. Throughout his career he has been nominated for numerous awards and has won an Academy Award, a Primetime Emmy Award, two Directors Guild of America Awards and more.
