K’naan Bio

K’naan, born Keinan Abdi Warsame, is a musician and poet from Mogadishu, Somalia. He moved to Canada at age thirteen, where he learned English and began rapping and writing poetry. Initially getting his start performing at UN Events, he became a seasoned performer through venues such as the Montreal Jazz Festival. He released his debut album, The Dusty Foot Philosopher, which was shortlisted for the Polaris Prize and won a Juno Award in 2006. His sophomore album, Troubadour, was released in 2009 and continued his streak of excellence. Featuring more melodic songwriting and his voice as a singer, the album earned him the Juno Awards for both Artist and Songwriter of the Year. His most recent album, Country, God or the Girl, was released in 2012 and featured Nas on the single “Nothing to Lose.”
