MOTHXR Bio
Mothxr is the band fronted by prolific actor and musician Penn Badgley. The band originally went by the name Mother, but they found this name too hard to distinguish from other groups and impossible to Google. The group’s line-up currently stands at Penn Badgely (vocals), Jimmy Giannopoulos (bass), Simon Oscroft (guitar), and Darren Will (keyboard). Giannopoulos doubles as the group’s producer, who has also worked with the groups Reputante and Lolawolf.
Mothxr’s sound is described as synth-heavy, influenced by 1980s new wave and R&B. Their debut album is “Centerfold,” released in February of 2016, after signing with the labels Kitsuné and Washington Square Music. Their single “Easy” was ranked #10 on the blog Hype Machine and #1 on Billboard’s Emerging Artists chart. The group has played with the groups Streets of Laredo, San Cisco, Sir Sly, Har Mar Superstar, The Neighbourhood and Miami Horror.
