Martin Short is a Canadian-American actor, comedian, singer, and writer born in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. He is best known for his work on the television skit show Saturday Night Live. He became interested in acting after he was cast in a Toronto production of Godspell. He has also had roles in the theatre productions The Goodby Girl, Little Me, Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me, It’s Only A Play and others. He made his television debut in 1972 in the show Right On and has since been in the shows Cucumber, The Family Man, The Love Boat, Taxi, Saturday Night Live, The Tracey Ullman Show, Maniac Mansion, The Martin Short Show, Damages, How I Met Your Mother and more. In 1979 he made his debut in film in the movie Lost and Found, and continued landing roles in the films Three Amigos, Three Fugitives, Pure Luck, Clifford, Father of the Bride, Mars Attacks!, A Simple Wish, Mumford, Prince Charming, The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause, Inherent Violence and others. In 1985 he recorded his first comedy special titled Martin Short: Concert for the North Americans and has since recorded the comedy specials I, Martin Short, Goes Hollywood and I, Martin Short, Goes Home. Throughout his career he has been nominated for a number of awards and has won a Theater World Award, a Tony Award, an Earl Gray Lifetime Achievement Award and more.
