Amal Clooney Bio

Amal Clooney is a Lebanese-British barrister at Doughty Street Chambers. She was born in Beirut, Lebanon on February 3, 1978. She specializes in international law and human rights and has worked with big names like WikiLeaks Founder Julian Assange, former prime minister of Ukraine, Yulia Tymoshenko, and Egyptian-Canadian journalist Mohamed Fahmy. In 2000 she graduated from St Hugh’s College, Oxford, with a BA in Jurisprudence. She then attended New York University of Law to get an LLM degree. Amal is qualified to practice as a lawyer in both the United Kingdom and the United States. She taught human rights class in 2018 at Columbia Law School and has given lectures at a number of other schools, including the University of London, the Law School of the School of Oriental and African Studies, The New School, the University of North Carolina, and The Hague Academy of International Law. Clooney is also involved in a number of Philanthropy causes and is the President of the Clooney Foundation for Justice. The foundation seeks to advance justice in courtrooms, classrooms, and communities around the world. In 2015 she was chosen as Barbara Walters’ Most Fascinating Person of 2015.
