Kabaka Pyramid, born Keron Salmon on April 20, 1991 in Kingston, Jamaica, is a rapper, singer, and music producer. He began his career in music by performing as a rapper in high school. In 2007, he released his first mixtape entitled The Transition, Vol. 1 after appearing in New York native DJ Green Lantern’s mixtape. In 2008, he got in touch with Kingston-based music label Bebble Rock and by 2009, he was able to release his next mixtape, The Transition, Vol. 2. He started reaching a bigger audience with the said effort through collaborations with artists like Five Steez and Keznamdi. At that time, he also started to produce for Ashanti and Massyka.
