Born in December 30, 1984, Andra Day or legally known as Cassandra Monique “Andra” Batie is from San Diego, California. She studied at San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts. There she was influenced by the music of Billie Holiday, Janis Joplin, Etta James, Lauryn Hill, and Nina Simone. She is also a singer-songwriter known for her red-stained lips.
She was then discovered through YouTube with as she covered Eminem’s “Lose Yourself.” The video became viral which led to her signing for Warner Bros. Records. There was a time when Stevie Wonder offered Andra Day to work with him, but never happened due to conflicts in schedule. She was also featured in Ellen DeGeneres which resulted to her global recognition.
