GoGo Penguin is a Manchester ambient trip hop band, composed of bassist Nick Blacka, Chris Illingworth who plays the piano, and Rob Turner, who provides the drums. Their music has been described as the “Radiohead of British Jazz” and their sounds influences include jazz, minimalist music such as Philip Glass’, house, ambient and trip hop. They have named Massive Attack and Brian Eno, as some major inspiration for their music. Their first album “Fanfares” was soon followed by a second album “v2.0” both released on Gondwana Records. The last album was awarded with a Mercury Prize as Album of The Year, alongside albums from major electronic artists such as Jungle. In 2015, the trio signed to Blue Note Records, prior to releasing their second album “Man Made Object” during the next year. Their fourth album was released in 2018, under the title “Humdrum Star”. In 2019 they released an EP “Ocean in a Drop”.
