Levardis Robert Martyn Burton, Jr., AKA LeVar Burton, was born on February 16, 1957 in Landstuhl, Germany. He learned at a young age that he had many talents, and he began by playing Kunta Kinte in Roots (1977). He would later take up this role again in the film version in 1988 titled Roots: The Gift. He both hosted and produced the children’s TV series Reading Rainbows (1986), which ran for an outstanding 23 seasons and earned 26 Emmy Awards in the process.
To many, he is best known as Lieutenant Junior Grade Geordi La Forge in cult classic Star Trek where he starred in both the TV series and accompanying films. This was not his only role in the show as he also directed more Star Trek Episodes than anyone else. All of this lead to him being recognized with a spot on the Hollywood Walk of fame in 1990. He has continued to make a number of guest appearances in sitcoms like Big Bang Theory and Family Guy, and he also continues to work on his own projects to this day.
