Agnes Obel was born in Denmark on October 28th, 1980 with the name Agnes Caroline Thaarup. With the encouragement of her musically-talented mother, she took up piano at an early age. Her debut album Philharmonics (2010) was written, produced and performed entirely by Obel apart from a cover of “I Keep Close Watch” by John Cale. The album went double platinum and became critically acclaimed worldwide. Obel then started the process of releasing her sophomore album in 2011. Aventine (2013) received positive reactions and she went on to release Citizen of Glass in 2016. Many of Obel’s songs have been featured in media like Grey’s Anatomy (2011) and Submarino (2009), and have won her awards including the Robert Award for Best Song of the Year (2011).
