Juan Antonio Bayona was born on May 9th, 1975 in Barcelona, Spain. He nurtured his skills by enrolling at Escola Superior de Cinema I Audiovisuals de Catalunya. After graduating, he began producing commercials and music videos. Juan got his first big break when he was offered the directing role for The Orphanage (2007). The film received a standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival that year. He then went on to work on The Impossible (2012) which was received well. His role as the director of the hit series Penny Dreadful earned him fans in the world of TV production. He worked on Jurassic World: A Fallen Kingdom (2018). He has been awarded the Best Director Award at the Goya Awards three times (2008, 2013 and 2016).
