Chickenfoot is the fowl-sounding name of a hard rock supergroup, composed of Sammy Hagar (lead vocals, rhythm guitar) and Michael Anthony (bass guitar, backing vocals) of the band Van Halen; Joe Satriani (lead guitar, keyboards, backing vocals) of Deep Purple; and Chad Smith (drums, percussion, backing vocals) of Red Hot Chili Peppers. Smith is currently the only member working with another affiliated band, namely RHCP, so they have Kenny Aronoff (from John Mellencamp’s band) on drums for touring.
Unsurprisingly for a supergroup, they’re a smash hit in everything they do. Their debut self-titled album sold certified gold in the US and Canada, their singles have hit the top-40 on Billboard’s US Mainstream chart, and they sell shows out through the roof wherever they perform. The group came together as a back-studio jam at Sammy Hagar’s club, before debuting onstage at a Las Vegas concert in 2008.
