Ed Asner was born on November 15, 1929 in Kansas City, Missouri. He started his career as a member of the Playwrights Theatre Company in Chicago. He began with Broadway, appearing in Face of a Hero and Threepenny Opera. His TV career included performing on Lou Grant, Studio One, The Outer Limits, and Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea.
Asner is also well known for films, his first being Kid Galahad then later on The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Thunder Alley, The Bronx Zoo, and Studio 60 on the Sunset Trip. He also did voice acting, his roles included Up, Babbitt, Spider-Man, the radio version of Star Wars, Boondocks, Batman, and Freakazoid.
Asner’s well-known role was in Roots, which he won an Emmy Award for, as well as for Rich Man, Poor Man, and The Mary Tyler Moore Show. He has won a total of 7 Emmy Awards and 5 Golden Globes and has multiple nominations for a variety of awards.
