Irwin Winkler was born on May 25, 1931 in New York City, New York. He is an American film producer and director. He has produced or directed about 50 motion pictures, since 1967’s Double Trouble starring Elvis Presley. He has B.A. from New York University.
He won Academy Awards: Best Picture for Rocky in 1977, BAFTA Awards: Best Film for Goodfellas in 1991, Hollywood Film Festival: Hollywood Film Award for Outstanding – Achievement in Producing in 1999, and Aspen Film Fest: Audience Favorite Feature Life as a House in 2001. He was also nominated for the Academy Awards: Best Picture for Raging Bull in 1981, Academy Awards: Best Picture forThe Right Stuff in 1984, Academy Awards: Best Picture Goodfellas in 1991 and the Cannes Film Festival: Palme d’Or for Guilty by Suspicion in 1991.
