YNG Martyr Bio
Indigenous musician YNG Martyr is from Canberra, Australia. Unexpectedly, a rival challenged him to freestyle rap for his friendsin a chat room for online video games, which is where his music career officially began. Martyr started composing and distributing original songs after realising his innate freestyle skills. His music veers between stripped-down R&B and high-intensity trap music, all of which are infused with distinctly appealing cadences and rhythms. Since its release in late 2018, his debut song, the anthem "PUTIN," has received over 1 million Spotify listens, garnering him a lot of internet attention. A song by YNG Martyr titled "Nike Ticks" was released in October 2019. A wave of popular memes that used the song's excerpts caused the song to go viral almost quickly. For his breakthrough single "Nike Ticks" in 2021, YNG received the coveted Song of the Year award from the well-known Australian hip-hop publication Acclaim at the end of 2020.
