Kwes, born Kwesi Sey in London, England, is a musician, producer, and songwriter based out of the UK. Kwes began his musical career producing early demos for the band The XX. He also collaborated with Micachu of Micachu & the Shapes on the project Kwesachu.
Kwes’ talents attracted the attention of other artists such as Hot Chip, The Invisible, and Damon Albarn for remixes to their singles. In 2011 Kwes collaborated with producers Damon Albarn, Dan the Automator, Richard Russell amongst others in Central Africa for one week to produce the album Kinshasa One Two and was released by the label Warp Records. All proceeds of the album benefited the charity organization Oxfam and their work in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Warp records then signed Kwes to a record deal. In 2012 Kwes partnered with Go Opera and Peroni Brewery to organize a series of opera concerts called Opera di Peroni. Kwes has gone on to produce tracks for Loyle Carner, Solange Knowles, and Kano among other artists.
