Ian Rush MBE Bio

Ian Rush is a Welsh professional soccer player who was born on October 20th, 1961 in St. Asaph, Wales. He had four sisters and five brothers and they grew up in a town called Flint, in Northeast Wales. He attended and played football for the Deeside Primary Schools and got attention from scouts from Liverpool, Manchester United. He had his first trials with Burnley, Wrexham, and Chester. Ian is best known for playing for Liverpool as a forward from 1980 to 1987 and from 1988 to 1996. He scored 346 goals in all competitions for the club, making him the club’s all-time top scorer. He was named PFA Players’ Player of the Year in 1984, led Liverpool to five First Division championships and three FA Cups. Rush had 73 appearances at the international level for Wales. He scored 28 goals between 1980 and 1996, a national record he held till 2018. Ian was voted third in the 100 Players Who Shook the Kop, an official Liverpool fan poll. He was later appointed the manager of Chester City in the 2004/2005 season and has been a TV pundit ever since his retirement in 2000.
