Sodré Bio

Raimundo Sodre is a popular Brazilian musician born on July 23, 1948 in Brazil. Sodre went viral for his 1980 smash hit “A Massa.” The song was a commercial success.

Applauded for his literary content, Sodre’s music style combines North-East Brazilian rhythms and traditional sound from the hinterlands like sambas de roda. Sodre received nationwide appeal.

After abandoning medical school for music, the 74-year-old musician moved to Sao Paulo. He taught private guitar classes and performed in small bars and nightclubs. However, his career hadn’t bloomed yet.

Sodre moved back to his hometown, and met Jorge Portugal. Portugal was a composer, who contributed immensely to Sodre’s musical career. Sodre performed in the University Circuit, TV Globo’s Festival da Nova MPB, and other festivals in New York City and Paris. He performed with various artists like Tania Alves, Djalma Correa, and Dudu do Gantois.

Sodre’s LP “A Massa” sold over 100,000 copies, earning him a gold record. His other albums, Coisa de Nego, Beijo Moreno, and Real also achieved commercial success.
