Syleena Johnson Bio

Syleena Johnson, born Syleena Thompson (September 2, 1976) is an American R&B and soul singer-songwriter and actress. Syleena’s rise in the music scene began when she released an album with her famous father, Syl Johnson titled ‘This Time Together by Father and Daughter’. Her solo debut came with the release of ‘Love Hangover’ in 1999 which was a cover album of classic R&B hits. After the release of her debut album, Syleena was offered a record deal with Jive Records where she released her debut album, ‘Chapter 1: Love, Pain & Forgiveness’ with guest features from Buddy and R. Kelly. She released ‘Chapter 2: The Voice’ in 2002 and ‘Chapter 3: In The Flesh’ in 2005. During the making of these latter albums, Syleena appeared on Kanye West’s Top Ten Hot 100 hit, ‘All Falls Down’. Syleena went independent in 2009 with the release of ‘Chapter 4: Labor Pains’ and shortly after, toured alongside Lalah Hathaway, Lisa Simone and Indira Khan as the Daughters of Soul. She went on to record ‘Chapter 5: Underrated’ in 2011 followed by ‘Chapter 6: Couples Therapy’ in 2014. After a three year haitus, Syleena released ‘Rebirth of Soul’ in 2017 followed by her most recent body of work, ‘Woman’ in 2020.
