Texas is a Glasgow-based Scottish pop-rock band founded by Johnny McElhone (formerly of Altered Images and Hipsway) and Sharleen Spiteri (lead vocals) in 1986.
Texas made its live debut at the University of Dundee in March 1988. They got their name from the 1984 film Paris, Texas, directed by Wim Wenders.
They released their debut album Southside in 1989. The first single, "I Don't Want a Lover," was a top-ten hit on the UK Singles Chart. Their follow-up albums Mothers Heaven (1991) and Ricks Road (1993) were less successful, peaking at numbers 32 and 18, respectively.
In 1997, their White on Blonde album took the streets by storm, charting top of the UK charts and was certified platinum six times.
