Eva Avila Bio

Eva Avila, born Eva Gougeon-Avila on February 25th, 1987 in Gatineau, Quebec, Canada, is a Canadian singer and songwriter that has been singing since the age of 2.  At the age of 9 she won the Homegrown Café talent show competition in Ottawa.

In 2006 Eva auditioned for Canadian Idol’s fourth season in Ottawa.  She sang the song “On My Own” from the musical production Les Miserables for her audition and advanced into the Top 22. She would go on to cover songs such as “Angel” by Sarah McLachlan, “Aint No Mountain High Enough” by Marvin Gaye, “Powerless” by Nelly Furtado, “White Wedding” by Billy Idol, and an original song called “How Come You Don’t Call Me Anymore?” on her way to the finals round.  For her grand finale she sang Nelly Furtado’s “Powerless (Say What You Want)” and ultimately won the competition.

After Canadian Idol, Avila signed with the label Sony BMG Canada and released her debut single “Meant to Fly.”  The song debuted at number 1 on the Canadian Singles Chart and certified double platinum. In 2006 Avila signed a modeling contract with Tom Ford.  In the same year she released her debut album Somewhere Else. It debuted at number 6 on the Canadian Album Charts. Eva released her second album, Give Me the Music, in 2008. The single of the same name was produced by Matrix Production.  The album marks her first United States release and the single “Damned” premiered on the Canadian Hot 100 and peaked at number 83.  She opened for Beyoncé on her I Am tour in Canada during 2009. Avila also closed the 2010 Winter Olympics in Russia.
