Joshua Cheptegei is a long-distance runner born on 12th September 1996 in Uganda. He started as a football player and later tried the long and triple jumps before switching to running. He is currently the 5000 meters Olympic champion. He also won gold at both the 5,000 meters and 10,000-meter races at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. He also holds the record for 5 km and 10 km in his home country Uganda.
He’s the 10th man in athletics history to hold the world record in 5,000 meters and 10,000 meters. He also set a new world record for the 15 km race in 2018. In August 2020, he set a new record for the 5000 m at the Monaco Diamond League, breaking the 16-year-old record set by Ethiopian long-distance runner Kenenisa Bekele. In October 2020, he set a new world record for 10,000 m.
