The Lonely Island is an American comedy group, composed of Akiva Schaffer, Andy Samberg and Jorma Taccone, and first assembled in Berkeley, California. The trio has been performing since 2001. The group started broadcasting videos on Channel 101, and soon they gained attention in the industry. In 2005, the members of the group were hired for the “Saturday Night Live” as writers. The second sketch they submitted to the program was titled “Lazy Sunday” and it was a hit, turning viral on the Internet. In 2007, they made their first movie “Hot Rod” where they worked as directors, producers, writers and performers. Between 2007 and 2019, they filmed 7 movies, among which “Michael Bolton’s Big, Sexy Valentine’s Day Special”. They won the 2007 Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards for their work “Dick in a Box”. In 2012, they were nominated for a Grammy Award in the category Best Comedy Album, for their album “Turtleneck & Chain”. They have collaborated with Justin Timberlake for the digital short of “Dick in a Box”.
