Sam Mendes Bio

Sir Samuel Alexander Mendes CBE, known as Sam Mendes, is an award-winning British director, screenwriter, and producer best known for his work in film, television, and theatre. He was born in Reading, Berkshire, England, on August 1, 1985. Sam began his career in 1987 when he became the assistant director at the Chichester Festival Theatre where he directed the productions of The Bear, The Proposal, London Assurance, and The Cherry Orchard. Sam became famous in 1999 when his film directorial debut American Beauty received tons of recognition from Hollywood. He has since worked on the blockbuster films Skyfall, Spectre, Road to Perdition, Jarhead, Revolutionary Road, and The Kite Runner, but he is best known for writing, directing, and producing the action-drama film 1917 which featured Dean-Charles Chapman, George MacKay, Colin Firth, Andrew Scott, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Richard Madden. Sam has won multiple awards including an Oscar Award for Best Director, a BAFTA Award for Best Film, and a Golden Globe Award for Best Director - Motion Picture.
