Cradle of Filth is an extreme metal band from Suffolk, England. The band formed in 1991 originally with a black metal sound and moved onto gothic and symphonic metal. The band consists of founder and lead vocalist Dani Filth, guitarists Marek “Ashok” Smerda and Rick Shaw, drummer Martin “Marthus” Skaroupka and vocalist/keyboardist Lindsay Schoolcraft. The gothic inspired band released their first three demos – Invoking the Unclean, Orgiastic Pleasures Foul and Total Fucking Darkness – from 1991 to 1993 before they signed with Cacophonous Records. Their debut album was released in 1994 titled ‘The Principle of Evil Made Flesh’. Due to label management issues, Cradle of Filth moved onto record label Music for Nations in 1996 to release a re-recorded and re-worked album scraped by Cocophonous Records titled ‘Dusk… and Her Embrace’ which brought them more fans globally around Europe, Australia and New Zealand. The band released a third album titled ‘Cruelty and the Beast’ which brought them popularity in the U.S. Cradle of Filth then went to add many more albums to their discography; ‘Midian’ in 2000, ‘Bitter Suites to Succubi’ in 2001, ‘Damnation and A Day’ in 2003, ‘Nymphetamine’ in 2004, ‘Thornography’ in 2006, ‘Eleven Burial Masses’ in 2007, ‘Godspeed on the Devil’s Thunder’ in 2008, ‘Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa’ in 2010,‘The Manticore and Other Horrors’ in 2014 and ‘Hammer of the Witches’ in 2015. In 2017, the band released ‘Crytoriana: The Seductiveness of Decay’ and have been touring globally since it’s release.
