José Ramón Andrés Puerta, also known as José Andrés, is a Spanish chef born in 1965 in Asturias. At a young age, he moved to Barcelona with his family and trained with local top chefs. In 1991 he moved to New York, and shortly after he opened restaurants in Washington D.C. In 2001 he started hosting TVE’s “Vamos a cocinar”, and expanded his restaurant chain internationally. Some of these include “Bazaar” in New York, and “minibar by José Andrés”, a Michelin-star awarded venue. Puerta has been awarded high honors by the Spanish government, the James Beard Foundation, and the National Humanities Medal. He has also ventured into book writing, with his debut title “Los fogones de José Andrés” reaching more than 100K sales.
