10,000 Maniacs is an American alternative rock band formed in Jamestown, New York in 1981. The band saw the most success between 1987 and 1993 when four of their albums reached the top 50 in the US charts. The band started with the members Teri Newhouse on vocals, Robert Buck on guitar, Steve Gustafson on bass guitar, Dennis Drew on keyboards, and Chet Cardinale on drums. Natalie Merchant contributed to some of the vocals around that time as well and eventually became a permanent member of the band on vocals and guitar. In 1981 they performed for the first time with the band name 10,000 Maniacs. They released their first EP together in in 1982 titled Human Conflict Number Five and followed it up with five more EPs. In 1983 they released their first studio album titled Secrets of the I Ching and have since released eight more albums titled The Wishing Chair, In My Tribe, Blind Man’s Zoo, Twice Told Tales, and more. They also released five live albums and 21 singles. Their most popular albums were In My Tribe, Blind Man’s Zoo, Our Time in Eden and MTV Unplugged. The current band members are Dennis Drew, Steve Gustafson, Jerry Augustyniak, Mary Ramsey, Jeff Erikson, and John Lombardo.
