Adam Ant Bio
Adam Ant, born Stuart Leslie Goddard on November 3rd, 1954 in London, England is a British singer, musician, and actor. Adam Ant first discovered his musical and artistic ability after a teacher took interest in him during an incident where he smashed in his head-master’s window.
In 1977 the band Adam and the Ants was formed. The group began to play shows around London and acted in the punk rock film Jubilee. In 1982 the released a song from the movie as a single entitled “Deutscher Girls/Plastic Surgery.” Prior to that, they released their debut album called Dirk Wears White Sox in 1979, but proved to be unpopular with British musical press of the time. After hiring the Sex Pistols manager, Malcolm McLaren, to rework their image, the group found success in the 1980 album Kings of the Wild Frontier.
In 1982 Adam broke off as a solo artist and released the album Friend or Foe. The single “Goody Two Shoes” reached number one on the British charts. In the same year he won a Brit Awards for Best British Album and an Ivor Novello Award for Songwriter of the Year. Adam released four more albums up to 2013 with the album Adam Ant is the Blueblack Hussar in Marrying The Gunner’s Daughter. In 2008 Adam was awarded a Q Award for Q Icon.
