Akua Naru is an American rapper, producer, and scholar, born in New Haven, Connecticut on August 20, 1978. She travels the world captivating audiences and drawing up emotion with her powerful spoken-word style of rapping. Her music incorporates jazz elements and traditional African sounds. In 2011 she released her debut album titled Journey Aflame. She co-founded her own label named The Urban Era and went on to release three more albums under her label, Live & Aflame Sessions in 2012, The Miner’s Canary in 2015, and The Blackest Joy in 2018. Akua has worked with many big named artists such as 7 Inch, Drumkidz, Jr & Ph7, and more. She has also been invited to lecture at highly acclaimed colleges including, Harvard, Princeton, Oxford, University of Cologne in Germany, and many others.
