Alan Cumming is a Scottish actor, writer, filmmaker, activist, and singer who has had a decorated career in film and theatre. He was born in Aberfeldy, Perthshire, Scotland, on January 27, 1965. He began his acting career in theatre, starring in the plays Conquest of the South Pole and Accidental Death of an Anarchist. Alan has appeared in the films X-Men United, The Smurfs, Spy Kids, and GoldenEye. He has also appeared on the small screen through the TV series Frasier, The Good Wife, and Instinct. Alan’s professional career has involved playing many roles including writer, director, producer, and host. He has won many awards including the British Comedy Award for Top Television Newcomer, a Tony Award for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical, and the Best Lifestyle Award at the New York Emmy Awards. For his services to film, theatre, and the arts and activism for equal rights, Alan was awarded the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire by the Queen. The Royal Society of Edinburgh awarded him the Fellowship of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.
