Alan Irwin Menken is an award-winning American composer and musician best known for writing the soundtracks to many Disney movies. He was born in Manhattan, New York City, New York, United States, on July 22, 1949. Alan became famous in 1991 when he scored the music for the film Beauty and the Beast which featured Paige O'Hara, Robby Benson, Jesse Corti, and Rex Everhart, and he has since written music for the Disney blockbusters Aladdin, Tangled, Pocahontas, Enchanted, The Little Mermaid, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and Hercules. Alan has won multiple Oscars for Best Music, Original Song, Best Music, Original Musical or Comedy Score, and Best Music, Original Score.
