Alejandro González Iñárritu Bio
Alejandro González Iñárritu was born on August 15, 1963 in Mexico City, Distrito Federal, Mexico. He is a writer, director and producer. He spent his early adulthood traveling by cargo ship, seeing Africa and Europe before returning to Mexico and enrolling in college to get a degree in Communications. He started working in a rock radio station, WFMU, where besides putting together playlists of relevant music he also wrote stories and used his radio show to tell stories. He would eventually become the director of the station, making it number one in Mexico. He later formed the production company Z, and here is where he really began writing, directing and producing films.
He is the first Mexican director to be nominated for an Oscar Award. He now has won two Oscar Awards along with two Golden Globes and a host of other awards. Notable works include The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance (2014), The Revenant (2015), 21 Grams (2003), and his virtual reality project, Carne y Arena, which is about the harsh reality of immigration. It premiered at Cannes Film Festival 2017.
