Alex Garland Bio

Alex Garland is an English novelist, screenwriter, film producer, and director born in London, England on May 26, 1970. He is best known for his novel The Beach and for his screenplays of the films 28 Days Later, Sunshine, Never Let Me Go, and Dredd. In 1996 he published his debut novel titled The Beach and has since written the novels The Tesseract and The Coma. In 2014 he made his directorial debut with the film Ex Machina and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. He also directed the film Annihilation. Garland has been a writer for the films 28 Days Later, Sunshine, Never Let Me Go, Dredd, Ex Machina and Annihilation and was the executive producer for 28 Weeks Later, Never Let Me Go, Dredd, and Big Game. He was the co-writer for the video game Enslaved: Odyssey to the West and was the story-supervisor for the video game DmC: Devil May Cry. Throughout his career he has been nominated for a number of awards and has won three British Independent Film Awards, a Writers’ Guild of Great Britain Awards, a Directors Guild of America Award and more.
