Panayotis Alexander Lalas, better known as Alexi Lalas, is an American retired professional soccer player who spent most of his career as a defender in Major League Soccer. He was born in Birmingham, Michigan, United States, on June 1, 1970. He spent his formative years playing regularly with the Cranbrook Kingswood School and Rutgers University teams. He played for the Italian side Padova before he moved back to the United States and played for the New England Revolution in the inaugural season of the MLS. He went on to play for the New York Red Bulls, the Kansas City Wizards, and Los Angeles Galaxy. He became a household name in 1994 when he represented the US at the FIFA World Cup alongside teammates Tony Meola, Mike Lapper, Mike Burns, and Cle Kooiman.
