Algiers is an American band formed in Atlanta, Georgia, in 2009. All the members of the band play percussion instruments and keyboards, and also do drum programming. The band was formed when Lee Tesche and Ryan Mahan met Franklin James Fisher in Atlanta. Lee Tesche and Ryan Mahan were already thriving in the city’s underground. Lee was a guitarist, Ryan was a bassist, and James was also a guitarist. Though they studied in different universities, they stayed in touch via email. Blood, their first single, was released in 2012. It was recorded in studios in London and New York. Their second single Claudette was released in 2013 before Matador discovered the prolific band and signed them over in January 2014. By April 2014 they started working on a full-length album. The album Algiers was finally issued in June 2015 which was advanced by the tracks But She Was Not Flying and Black Eunuch. Their third album There is No Year arrived in 2020 and featured guest spots for expert saxophonist Skerik and vocals by LaToya Kent, Kyle Kidd, and Lou the Dog.
