Ali Sethi is a Pakistani musician, singer, actor, writer and columnist, born on July 2, 1984, in Lahore, Pakistan. He began writing during his studies at Harvard College, where he was influenced by notable writers such as Zadie Smith and Amitav Ghosh. He published his debut novel, The Wish Maker, in 2009. Ali began his classical music studies under Ustad Naseeruddin Saami in 2008. He recorded a couple of Reshma tracks with musicians Tsivi Sharett and Natalie Rosario in London. In 2012, he made his film debut as a singer in the movie The Reluctant Fundamentalist, directed by Mira Nair, with the song Dil Jalane Ki Baat Karte Ho. Ali has released several cover singles in recent years and has appeared on several seasons of Coke Studio Pakistan. He began releasing original music in 2019 and has worked with Grammy-winning producer Noah Georgeson. He also writes columns for publications such as the New York Times, The New Yorker, and The Friday Times.
