Alicia Garza is an American activist best known for being the co-creator of the Black Lives Matter Global Network and the principal of Black Futures Lab. She was born in Oakland, California, United States, on January 4, 1981. She has been involved in the community projects People United for a Better Life in Oakland, People Organized to Win Employment Rights, National Domestic Workers Alliance, and the Black Lives Matter campaign. She started a podcast called Lady Don’t Take No that focuses on politics and beauty. Alicia authored the book The Purpose of Power. She has received recognition from numerous institutions including a Local Hero Award from the San Francisco Bay Guardian, two Bayard Rustin Community Activist Awards by Harvey Milk Democratic Club, and she was included in Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People of 2020 and Fortune’s 40 Under 40.
