Allison Russell is a Canadian musician, singer and songwriter who was born in Montreal, Quebec. She started her journey in the music industry in 2003 when she created the band Po’ Girl alongside Trish Klein. Together, they released seven studio albums. In 2012 she formed another group called Birds of Chicago, this time alongside JT Nero, with whom she released three studio albums.
In 2019, she became part of the collective called Our Native Daughters with Rhiannon Giddens, Leyla McCalla, and Amythyst Kiah. In 2021, she began her career as a solo artist releasing the album Outside Child, for which she received nominations at Canadian Folk Music Awards, Polaris Music Prize and Americana Honors & Awards, as well as three Grammy nominations as Best American Roots Performance; Best American Roots Song; Best Americana Album. Among her most famous songs of the album, we can find “Nightflyer” and “Persephone”.
