Ana Tijoux Bio

Anamaría Tijoux Merino, known for her stage name Ana Tijoux or Anita Tijoux, is a French-Chilean singer and musician. She became famous in Latin America when she MCed for the hip-hop group Makiza in the 1990s. She then focused more on pop and started to collaborate with Mexican singer Julieta Venegas and created the hit song “Eres para mi”. In 2010, Tijoux released her second solo album, 1977. The album and single 1977 were immediate hits in local underground rap circles. It was picked up by a United States-based Latino Alternative label called Nacional Records, who went on to re-release the song the following year. She was invited to perform at South by Southwest and it kicked off her first North American tour. In 2011 MTV recognized her as the “Best New Female Emcees Dominating Mics Everywhere”.
