Andre Agassi is an American former professional tennis player born in Las Vegas, Nevada on April 29, 1970. He was regarded as one of the sports most dominant players from the 90s to the mid 2000s and was former world No. 1. His nickname on the court was The Punisher. He started playing tennis at a young age and at 12 years old won the 1982 National Indoor Boys 14s Doubles Championship in Chicago. At 16 he turned professional and competed in his first professional tournament at La Quinta, California. Agassi is an eight time Grand Slam champion and Olympic gold medalist in singles tennis and was a runner up in seven other Grand Slam Tournaments. He was the first male player to win four Australian Open titles and is one of eight male singles players to achieve the Career Grand Slam and the first to achieve the Career Golden Slam. He reached the No. 1 ranking for the first time in 1995 and reached it again in 1999. He suffered a serious back injury and retired from professional tennis on September 3, 2006.
