Andre Berto was born in Winter Haven, Florida on September 7, 1983. He made his boxing debut in 2004. Berto won 22 state titles in Florida. He is also a three-time U.S. amateur championship medalist.
Berto won the WBC Welterweight World Championship title in 2008. In 2014, he snatched the IBF Welterweight World Championship title. He is also two-time PAL Champion. He won the National Golden Gloves twice – at light middleweight in 2001 and for the welterweight class in 2003. He represented the US at the World Championships in 2003 and earned a bronze medal.
Berto was the first Haitian to join US Olympic boxing squad in 2004, but he was disqualified during the opening round. In 2010, he created The Berto Dynasty Foundation to raise money for people affected by the earthquake in Haiti.
