Andre Braugher is an American actor born in 1962 in Chicago, Illinois. Braugher grew up in Chicago and trained at Juilliard School's Drama Division, graduating in 1988. In 1989 he made his film debut with a small role on “Glory,” and achieved fame and critical acclaim portraying Detective Frank Pembleton on the crime series “Homicide: Life on the Street” from 1993 to 1998. For this role, he won an NAACP Image Award, a Satellite Award, and a Primetime Emmy Award. In the early and mid-90s, he also made appearances in movies like “‘Primal Fear” and “Get on the Bus.” In 2006, the actor starred the FX series “Thief,” which also earned him an NAACP Image Award and a Primetime Emmy Award. In 2011 he appeared on “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” and in 2013 he joined the cast of “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” as Captain Ray Holt.
