Andrea Petkovic Bio

Andrea Petkovic was born on 9th September 1987 in Tuzla, SR Bosnia, and Herzegovina. Her father was a former Yugoslavian tennis player who went on to become her coach. After finishing school in 2006, she turned professional. She had won four ITF circuit titles. She was part of the German Fed Cup Team as well. In 2009, she played her first WTA tournament where she made it to the second round. After winning Open Romania, she reclaimed her spot in the top 100 WTA rankings. 2010, she came to prominence when she reached the semi-finals of her first season tournament in Brisbane, Australia. This put her in the top 50 WTA Rankings. Her best performance came in the US Open where she won her first two matches before receiving a third-round walkover as a result of injury. She returned to the Brisbane International in 2011 and reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open. She beat world No.1 Caroline Wozniacki in the Sony Ericsson Open and won her second WTA title in Strasbourg. She also reached the quarterfinals of the French Open and debuted in the Top 10 WTA rankings that year. She became the first female since Steffi Graf in 1999 to achieve this feat.
