Andrew Charles Grammer, known as Andy Grammer, was born on December 3, 1983, in Los Angeles, California. His, Red Grammer, father was a popular children’s artist, and so he was exposed to music and songwriting at a very young age. Though he spent the majority of his formative years in New York, Andy Grammer moved back to California for college. While there, he frequented the streets of Los Angeles, playing as a street performer in hopes that he would be discovered. It worked, and Andy Grammer was signed to S-Curve records, which helped him release his self-titled debut album in 2011.
His single “Keep Your Head Up” off of the album went platinum, and he was eventually named by Billboard as one of the 2011 Artists to Watch. Since being discovered, he has sold more than 100,000 albums in the United States, and his first two singles ever released allowed him to be named in the Top 10 of Adult Pop Radio. On the wave of his success with the album, he went on tour with the band Train, planned his 2014 tour in the U.S., and will release his second album Magazines or Novels in August 2014.
