Andy Shauf Bio

Andy Shauf is a musician based in Toronto, Canada. Born on May 26, 1987, originally from Saskatchewan, Canada, he grew up teaching himself how to play a variety of instruments, including guitar, drums, and piano. Shauf began recording and producing his own music in his parents’ basement, eventually collecting them in a demo he released in 2009 called Darker Days. Shauf is inspired by the likes of Wilco, Elliott Smith, and Neil Young. His music features a wide range of instruments, creating a blend of folk and sophisticated pop. He released his first full-length album, Bearer of Bad News, in 2012, which was well-received by critics. After touring North America and Europe for two years, Shauf began to work on his next album, The Party. Released in 2016, Shauf played every instrument except for the strings heard on the album. The Party led Shauf to be on the shortlist for the 2016 Polaris Music Prize. Like his previous albums, his next album, The Neon Skyline, was written, performed, and produced entirely by Shauf himself and was released in 2020.
