Anita Baker is an American singer-songwriter, active since 1979 she was born in Ohio. Singing at R&B nightclubs at the age of 16. Discovered by a band leader, she joined the funk band Chapter 8 and sang with them until she went solo in 1983.
Her debut solo album was The Songstress and the hit single Angel became Baker’s first ever charting single, reaching number five on the R&B charts. With six albums so far, some of her singles include: Lately and How Does It Feel. Baker has also won eight Grammy Awards from seventeen nominations thus far in her career. Baker also holds four American Music Award wins, Anita Baker also has a place on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
