Anouk Teeuwe, who is known simply by her first name as a performer, was born in the Netherlands on April 8, 1975. After tumultuous teenage years in which she ran away from home and experimented with drugs, she began singing at public events and weddings with a band that she joined. Only 15 years old at the time, she later met the lead singer of the band Golden Earring, Barry Hay, who recognized her talent and helped her to record her first single “Mood Indigo”. She broke through nationally, however, with the song “Nobody’s Wife”, and later released her debut album Together Alone. She followed this with the albums Urban Solitude in 1999, Lost Tracks in 2001, and Graduated Fool in 2002. In 2003, Anouk was honored with a Golden Harp, an award given out to Dutch musicians. She would go on to release Hotel New York in 2004, Who’s Your Momma in 2007, For Bitter or Worse in 2009, To Get Her Together in 2011, Sad Singalong Songs in 2013, and Feet on the Ground in 2014.
