Anthony Hopkins Bio

Philip Anthony Hopkins was born on December 31, 1937, in Margam, Wales. Best known for his role in the movies Silence of the Lambs, The Mask of the Zorro and Thor, Anthony Hopkins did not like school at all. It was after he met Richard Burton when he discovered acting and stage. At the age of 15, Anthony Hopkins started studying at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. He later studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts where he spent few years working with the popular Sir Laurence Olivier. This connection helped him start his Hollywood career. His big screen success was The Lion in Winter (1968), where he had a role of Richard I. At the same time, he kept maintaining his stage career. In 1976, after years of struggling with alcoholism, he won the Emmy award for the role of Bruno Richard Hauptmann in The Lindbergh Kidnapping Case from 1976. Years after he won several Emmy Awards, Oscar Awards, and BAFTA Awards for his work.  His role in the movie Silence of the Lambs put him closer to Hollywood and secured roles in the movies The Remains of the Day (1993), Nixon (1995), Amistad (1997), Proof (2005), Beowulf (2007), and Thor (2011). He was in the business for over 30 years before getting his first Academy Award for the role of Hannibal Lecter in the Silence of the Lambs.
